Rooted Like Trees
Through life’s obstacles, we can envision ourselves as tree-like beings.
Imagine that we have roots reaching down into the earth, energetic strands that keep us connected. At the same time, the crowns of our heads lift us to receive nourishment from above.
Just as a tree, we seek sunshine and water. We need them to survive and thrive.
We also share ways of growing, regardless of the obstacles we come up against.
Trees will even grow through rocks, shattering them in an effort to reach the air and light that they need to survive.
This process of pushing through resilience actually strengthens the tree’s core.
We are similarly resilient.
We are built with a propensity for transformation. Our obstacles can be seen not as barriers, but as opportunities for self-discovery.
We move toward the light that feeds us and can emerge stronger.
Rooted in Nature
Contemplating the ways in which trees and people mirror one another brings us in alignment with the reality that we are part of nature.
Our children and the tree’s children will live together on the earth as long as we all survive, sharing the elements and surviving together.
Forward to nature’s plan.
Walking in a forest can be meditative. There is something powerful about witnessing the interweaving of lives, the living creatures, and the planet on which we all take root and reach to the sky.
Perhaps there is something we can learn from the trees.
To stay rooted while continuing to grow.
To reach toward the light.
To find nourishment.
And when we encounter obstacles, to remember that even something as solid as a rock does not always stop a tree from growing.
Sometimes, the obstacle becomes part of the process.
And sometimes, pushing through is what makes us stronger.
